Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Which Wolf Will You Feed?
An Old Cherokee Tale

This old Cherokee tale is a beautiful one to remember this week of our US elections. . . .

One evening, an elderly Cherokee brave told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.
One is evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other wolf is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked, “Grandpa, which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one that you feed.”

As we move into election week in a very divided country, we can all look inside ourselves and ask, “Which wolf will I feed?  What kind of world do I want to create and live in?  How do I choose to move through this week?”

We can choose to see the good in the world, meet each other with compassion, and foster peace and calm.  Or, we can choose to feed the other wolf inside us all. This choice is each of ours to make.

Don’t underestimate the power of kindness, compassion, patience and love. We can choose to create the kind of world and country we want to live in. It all starts with making that choice.
